Il Fanale, Italian artisan lighting in brass, copper and blown glass since 1979

Il Fanale is an Italian lighting brand founded in 1979 in Treviso by Fausto Dalla Torre and his wife Luisa Martin. Drawing on a decade of experience working with traditional metals, they set up the company with the intention of producing unique, original lamps of the highest quality. Dedication, determination and commitment are the qualities that have made Il Fanale what it is today: a successful artisan lighting company recognised both in Italy and abroad.

Il Fanale's uniqueness lies in its raw materials — iron, brass, copper, Bassano ceramics and Murano blown glass — and in how they are worked: each metal piece undergoes accelerated oxidation, is hand-cleaned and dried in a special oven before being polished to its final finish. The result is lamps that blend industrial references, New Decò style and more contemporary collections, always with the vintage touch that has made the brand famous.

Il Fanale remains a family business today: Marzia and Tomas Dalla Torre, the founders' children, have inherited their parents' passion and created Torremato, their own line bringing wood and natural materials into the family craft, expanding the catalogue without ever losing the handmade essence that defines the brand.

Among its best-known collections is Drop, the brand's best-seller, inspired by the lights of Italian village festivals, alongside Sfera, designed for outdoor use around its iconic blown-glass sphere blending Mediterranean materiality with geometric simplicity. Madame, described by the brand as a ballerina caught mid-air, brings sculptural brass lines, while Bon Ton, under the Torremato line, recreates the drop of a jewellery earring. These are joined by collections such as Alchimia, designed by studio Brogliato Traverso, Officina, with its industrial iron aesthetic, and Fior di Pizzo, with its hand-embroidered Bassano ceramics.

Sustainability and responsible craftsmanship at Il Fanale

Il Fanale's commitment to more conscious production is especially reflected in Torremato, the line created by Marzia and Tomas Dalla Torre, which brings wood and other natural materials together with brass, reducing the weight of purely industrial finishes in the catalogue.

This is reinforced by the house's own philosophy: producing by hand, in small batches, with traditional oxidation and polishing processes uses far less energy than mass production. Every piece passes through artisan hands in Treviso, supporting a local manufacturing model rather than the offshoring typical of industrial lighting.

The result is lamps designed to last for generations rather than be replaced every few years: brass and iron age gracefully without losing function, and repair and maintenance are simple thanks to each piece's artisan construction.
