How to choose the ideal ceiling light

By room

The choice of ceiling light depends largely on the space where it will be installed. In the living room, an indirect or bidirectional ceiling light creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while in reading or working areas, direct light with a colour temperature of 3,000 K or higher is recommended. In the bedroom, models with dimmable light and a warm colour temperature of 2,700 K promote rest. In hallways and entrance areas, a compact, low-profile ceiling light is the most common solution, while in kitchens it is advisable to choose models with good colour rendering (CRI 90 or higher).

By light type

Ceiling lights can emit direct light (downward, ideal for illuminating work surfaces), indirect light (upward, to create soft atmospheres without glare) or bidirectional light (up/down, combining functionality and decoration). Many models in our catalogue incorporate Tunable White technology, which allows the colour temperature to be adjusted throughout the day, and DALI or Push Dimmer systems to regulate light intensity.

By decorative style

For contemporary and minimalist interiors, low-profile ceiling lights in matt black or white finishes from brands such as WEVER & DUCRÉ or Vibia are a safe choice. For spaces with a more artistic or decorative character, SLAMP offers ceiling lights in innovative materials such as Opalflex, while Il Fanale proposes artisanal finishes in brass and blown glass. For contract and hospitality projects, LODES and Marset offer versatile and configurable solutions.

Types of ceiling lights

Circular ceiling lights: the most classic and versatile format, available in multiple diameters. They adapt to any room and style.

Square and rectangular ceiling lights: particularly suitable for spaces with defined architectural lines, modern kitchens and offices.

Surface ceiling lights with adjustable spotlights: allow light to be directed towards specific points. Ideal for living rooms, art galleries and shops. Well represented in our catalogue by WEVER & DUCRÉ.

Decorative ceiling lights: conceived as design pieces that give identity to the space as well as illuminate it. SLAMP, Karman and LZF stand out in this category.

Integrated LED ceiling lights: do not require bulb replacement and offer greater energy efficiency and lower maintenance. The majority of models in our catalogue incorporate high-efficiency integrated LEDs.

Frequently asked questions about ceiling lights

What is the difference between a ceiling light and a pendant lamp?

A ceiling light is mounted flush against the ceiling, with no cable or gap between the lamp and the ceiling. It is the ideal option for spaces with low ceilings or where a clean and discreet installation is desired. A pendant lamp hangs from the ceiling via a cable or rod, allowing you to play with height and create a greater decorative effect. For ceilings lower than 2.50 m, a ceiling light is generally recommended.

Do designer ceiling lights have integrated LEDs?

The vast majority of modern designer ceiling lights incorporate high-efficiency integrated LEDs, which eliminates the need for bulb replacement and reduces energy consumption. Some more classic or decorative models still use E27 or GU10 sockets, allowing you to choose the type of bulb. This information is indicated in the technical specification sheet of each product.

Can ceiling lights be dimmed?

Yes, many models in our catalogue are dimmable via Push Dimmer, DALI or phase-compatible dimmer systems. Some also incorporate Tunable White technology, which allows the colour temperature to be adjusted between 2,700 K (warm light) and 6,500 K (cool light) depending on the time of day or activity. Compatibility with dimmers is indicated in each product's specification sheet.

Can I install an indoor ceiling light outdoors?

No. Indoor ceiling lights do not have the necessary protection against moisture and atmospheric agents. For outdoor use, a minimum protection rating of IP43 is required in covered areas and IP65 in areas exposed to rain. Please visit our outdoor ceiling lights section to find suitable models.
