Marset: Barcelona design lamps with a foundry soul | Insmat Caldes

Marset is a family lighting company with roots in the 1940s, when Paco Marset founded a metalworking foundry in the Les Corts neighbourhood of Barcelona. Around 1965 the workshop evolved into luminaire manufacturing, and in the 1990s the arrival of the third generation — led by Xavier Marset as CEO — marked the definitive strategic shift: design became the key differentiator. Today Marset is headquartered in Terrassa (Barcelona), exports over 80% of its turnover to more than 50 countries, and has showrooms in Barcelona, Milan and New York, with its own branch in New York since 2010. In 2015 it received the Spanish National Design Award.

Marset operates as a lamp editor, collaborating with leading national and international designers: Inma Bermúdez (FollowMe, the pioneer of rechargeable portable lamps, 2014), Joan Gaspar (Ginger, wood and LED), Jordi Canudas (Dipping Light, blown glass with gradient lacquers), Lluís Porqueras (Funiculí, 1979, re-edited with LED in 2013), Christophe Mathieu and Xavier Mañosa, among others. Its luminaires have illuminated the Virgin Hotel Chicago, the Edition Hotel Marriott Istanbul, the Fairmont Hotel Monaco and the Mandarin Hotel Barcelona.

At Insmat Caldes, official Marset distributors in Barcelona, we carry the FollowMe and Gambosa collections, with personalised advice for residential and contract projects. Showroom: Avinguda Josep Fontcuberta 134, Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona). Contact: info@insmatcaldes.com.

Was Marset the first brand to make rechargeable portable lamps?

Yes. Marset led and anticipated the portable lamp trend with the FollowMe by Inma Bermúdez in 2014, considered the first rechargeable portable design lamp on the market.
